NOW...EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA FEELING SOME EFFECTS FROM HURRICANE GUSTAV... GOOD MORNING FROM THE IMPACT WEATHER DESK. MAJOR HURRICANE GUSTAV CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN IN THE NORTHWEST CARIBBEAN AS IT HEADS TOWARD THE NORTHWEST. ALTHOUGH GUSTAV IS FORECAST TO REMAIN WELL SOUTH AND WEST OF CENTRAL FLORIDA...THE CIRCULATION AROUND GUSTAV IS ENHANCING THE EAST WINDS ACROSS CENTRAL FLORIDA AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS. ISOLATED SHOWERS AND LIGHTNING STORMS OVER THE ATLANTIC WILL MOVE TOWARD THE WEST AT 20 TO 25 MPH AND ONSHORE...PRODUCING A PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN...DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING AND GUSTY WINDS OF 25 TO 30 MPH WHERE THEY CROSS THE COAST. COVERAGE IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE LATER THIS MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON OVER PENINSULAR FLORIDA AS DAYTIME HEATING DESTABILIZES THE ATMOSPHERE. LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN AND FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREATS FROM STORMS TODAY. DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL ARE NOT EXPECTED BUT GUSTY WINDS OF 30 TO 35 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE.
