40.7' - This is the flood of record stage from Hurricane Agnes in June 1972. Catastrophic flooding devastated areas from Painted Post to Big Flats and beyond. Levees protect the Market Street area south of the river in the City of Corning to this level.
37' - Flooding begins to overtop levee protected areas of Painted Post, Riverside and Corning on the north side of the river.
36' - Major flooding of roads, properties and buildings occurs from South Corning to Big Flats.
32' - Major flooding develops as water begins to overtop the levee protected areas of South Corning.
31' - Portions of SR-352 near the Chemung county line flood.
30' - Moderate flooding affects farmland, properties, and residences over a wide area along River Road from South Corning to Big Flats. In the past, Route 17E was closed.
29' - Flooding affects several roads and properties outside of flood protection areas, especially along River Road in South Corning. Access to Corning Hospital is affected by flooding.
26' - Minor flooding begins. Flooding affects portions of River Road. A few properties in Big Flats become isolated by flood waters.
21' - Agricultural lands nearest the river and outside the levee protected areas begin to flood, particularly from South Corning to Big Flats.
