1987 - A cold front brought snow to the Appalachian Region and freezing temperatures to the central U.S. Up to nine inches of snow blanketed Garrett County of extreme western Maryland. Thunderstorms brought fire quenching rains to Alabama, and produced large hail and damaging winds to eastern North Carolina.
