1941 - Only two women were employed by the Weather Bureau. By 1945, more than 900 women are employed by the Weather Bureau as observers and forecasters, as a result of filling positions of men during World War II. Eleven days after Pearl Harbor, the Army requested that all weather broadcasts be discontinued. The fear was that the enemy would use this information to plan an attack on the United States.

About Glen Flora, TX

Glen Flora is an unincorporated community in Wharton County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 210 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. On November 21, 1992, an F1 tornado destroyed several barns northeast of the community. Four homes were damaged by another tornado on November 23, 2004. Glen Flora has a post office with the zip code 77443.
