.DISCUSSION... Issued at 1245 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
A cold front moved through southeast Texas yesterday evening and last night. There isn`t much cold air associated with the airmass, but there is much drier air; particularly in the mid and upper levels. Dewpoint temperatures early this morning were still in the upper 60s to low 70s, but deep mixing of the boundary layer and dry advection should lower dewpoints into the low 60s for most of the area later today. The only exceptions to this will be near the coast where dewpoints linger in the 70s until tonight.
A 20-40% chance of scattered showers, and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm, continues today and tonight near the coast and in our marine zones. There should be a somewhat healthy diurnal cumulus field across most of the region today and tomorrow. Some of the CAM guidance shows spotty showers developing, but strong subsidence aloft should preclude any substantial/long-lasting precipitation cores. We`ve capped PoPs associated with this activity around 10%.
High pressure will build into the region and dominate the local weather pattern the next several days. Expect temperatures to hover near to slightly above average through the weekend and much of next week as well. When you combine the (slightly) lower temperatures with the dry air, it should be a nice weekend to head outdoors.
The airmass will start to modify in the middle to late parts of next week, but either a broad area of low pressure in the gulf or a building ridge to our northwest should keep east-northeast winds in place. This will keep higher moisture air locked in the gulf and temperatures within a few degrees of normal. Rain chances do return to the forecast early next week, but generally for our marine and coastal zones.

.AVIATION... (18Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1235 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
VFR vis and cigs to prevail through the TAF period. Northerly winds around 10 knots should become more light and variable this evening and tonight. Wind forecast somewhat complicated at the coast. Therefore, the wind forecast is more uncertain at GLS, where we think winds will become variable in the afternoon then pick up from the north late overnight.

.MARINE... Issued at 1245 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
Scattered showers, and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm, will continue this afternoon and most of tonight. Precip chances should come to an end by tomorrow morning. The winds are generally out of the north-northeast and will remain that way for the next couple days. A broad area of low pressure may develop in the southern gulf later this weekend and create ENE winds around 10-15 mph and slightly choppy conditions Sunday and Monday.
