.DISCUSSION...through Tuesday.
Southerly to southwesterly winds will continue to increase throughout the area as a low pressure system slowly pushes into the area. The strongest winds are expected across Mohave County where a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7:00 pm MST this evening as wind gusts up to 45 mph will be possible this afternoon. Elsewhere, wind gusts are expected to top out in the 20 to 35 mph range. In addition to the Wind Advisory for Mohave County, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area until 7:00 pm PDT/MST as these elevated winds will result in choppy waves and hazardous boating conditions on lakes Mead and Mohave. Winds will decrease slightly overnight, returning again late tomorrow morning. However, tomorrow`s winds will not be as strong as today`s. Outside of winds, this system will also bring cooler than normal temperatures to the region, which will hang around into next week. Additionally, as the low pushes in, the Sierra and portions of Esmeralda County will see up to a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow.
Smoke from the Garnet fire will continue to impact the Owens Valley and portions of Esmeralda County as we find ourselves under southwesterly flow aloft today and tomorrow. Reduced visibility and poor air quality can be expected overnight into the morning hours through at least tomorrow. Conditions look to improve across the northwestern portions of our forecast area beginning Friday as we find ourselves on the back side of the low pressure system, which will result in northwesterly flow aloft.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Moderate confidence in the overnight wind forecast. Most likely, winds will become south around 10KT, however there is a low chance for west winds gusting over 20KT to occur in the next few hours. By 09Z, no matter what happens over the next few hours, wind should become south, briefly drop any gusts for a few hours, and sit around 10KT. Between 12Z-15Z, moderate confidence south gusts to 20KT will return. This will continue until winds become southwest around 20KT after 21Z. Unlike the past few evening, winds will quickly diminish after sunset Thursday evening and fall back to typical overnight wind patterns under 8KT. VFR and dry conditions will prevail through the period.
For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Smoke has been limited in the Owens Valley this evening. Isolated visibility restrictions to 6SM is possible, but expecting unrestricted conditions to continue tonight. Otherwise VFR conditions expected across the region tonight and Thursday. There is a low chance for showers and thunderstorms to develop in the Sierra, moving into the Owens Valley after 00Z Thursday evening, which could bring lightning, sudden gusty winds and CIGS to 5000ft. Elsewhere, it will be dry. Winds tonight should follow typical patterns, with the strongest winds in the Western Mojave Desert where gusts to around 25KT will continue intermittently through the night. South to southwest winds return Thursday afternoon with gusts 20-25KT across the region through 03z with winds then decreasing to less than 10KT overnight.
