501 FXUS61 KBGM 281035 AFDBGMArea Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Binghamton NY 635 AM EDT Sun Sep 28 2025
.SYNOPSIS... High pressure is expected through the entire week. Temperatures will be well above normal to start the week, but a Canadian high pressure system descends from the north Wednesday to bring below average temperatures. There is potential for at least scattered frost in sheltered, and typically colder valleys by Wednesday night.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/... A weak surface high pressure will be over the region today. After morning valley fog lifts around 10 AM, it will be a warm and sunny day. High temperatures will be well above normal, with some of the warmer urban areas reaching the low to mid 80s. Clear and dry airmass overhead tonight will allow for efficient radiational cooling as temperatures fall back into the 40s and low 50s by Monday morning. Monday will be another warm and nice day with high temperatures a few degrees cooler, but still in the upper 70s to near 80.
&&
.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/... High pressure will be in control and strengthen over the region. This will keep all tropical activity well south of central NY and northeast PA. A Canadian high begins to press down from the north Monday night. However, highs on Tuesday will still likely be in the 70s.
&&
.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Another large and chilly high pressure system builds south and covers the region through Saturday. This high will keep prolonged northeast winds over our area through Thursday. Thursday morning we may see the potential for more frost and potentially some freezing temperatures in our normally colder areas, however there is still some uncertainty if winds will completely decouple overnight to allow frost formation.
Friday and Saturday, the high pressure slowly builds east and leads to a moderating temperature trend by next weekend.
&&
.AVIATION /12Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Valley for remains across the area, with ELM the only terminal impacted with LIFR conditions. Fog should burn off between 9-10am, leaving VFR conditions across the region through the evening hours. Fog will once again be possible at ELM tonight, with IFR restrictions currently expected.
Outlook...
Monday through Thursday...Mainly VFR, other than typical valley fog formation especially KELM late each night through dawn each morning.
&&
.BGM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PA...None. NY...None.
