.DISCUSSION... Issued at 226 AM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025
Persistent upper ridging remains in control of the region as of this morning. A downstream upper low is situated across Virginia and the Carolinas with upstream troughing across the Rockies and northern plains. The weak inverted trough that managed to spark a few showers yesterday will remain across the area today. Drier northeasterly flow will help to keep conditions dry today as PW`s drop to below an inch. High temperatures will likely be similar to yesterday with highs in the low to mid 90s. The dry weather and continued hot temperatures remain through Friday. Thursday looks a bit warmer as the ridge axis moves directly overhead in response to height falls across the northern and central plains.
We see a pattern change taking place late this week, from Friday and continuing through the weekend into early next week. Upper troughing will move east into the Midwest Friday, pushing through the region over the weekend. Additional troughing looks to develop within cyclonic flow into early next week. This pattern would support chances of showers and storms, although coverage and amounts are uncertain. Ensembles continue to show overall limited amounts through the weekend, and certainly not enough to make any notable dents into the ongoing drought. Overall, temperatures will cool a few degrees this weekend into early next week with highs in the mid to upper 80s to near 90.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z THURSDAY/... Issued at 1230 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025
FEW-SCT cu this afternoon will give way to SKC tonight. Winds remain light, generally out of the N/NE today. Some patchy fog can`t be ruled out again tonight, especially around KCGI, but crossover temperatures may be lower tonight due to deeper mixing of dry air aloft today so chances appear lower.
