Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 940 PM PDT Thu Sep 11 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Low pressure brings breezy afternoon winds, below average temperatures, and isolated precipitation through tomorrow.

* Dry conditions and increasing temperatures return this weekend and early next week.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Wednesday.

Breezy and relatively cool conditions persist as an area of low pressure slowly tracks east through the Great Basin today and tomorrow. Current satellite imagery shows cumulus development over the Sierra, White Mountains, and the mountains of Esmeralda County. CAMs suggest that isolated thunderstorms will develop over this area this afternoon and evening, some of which may produce frequent lightning and gusty outflow winds. Another round is possible tomorrow before dry and descending air arrives on the back side of the low. Breezy southerly to southwesterly winds will decrease this evening and should be lighter tomorrow as the center of the low moves overhead. Tomorrow should be the coolest day of the forecast period, with highs 5 to 10 degrees below average for this time of year. For Las Vegas, highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s.

Heights aloft rise as the low tracks east over the next few days. Temperatures gradually increase in response, with highs reaching near to above normal values Monday through Wednesday. This means highs in the mid to upper 90s for Las Vegas. Besides increasing temperatures, expect light winds and dry conditions.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light winds under 8KT following typical wind patterns are expected through Saturday morning. Southwest winds overnight will diminish by Friday morning, then become east around 5KT in the afternoon. Winds will switch back to the west or southwest after sunset Friday. VFR conditions will prevail through the period.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Showers and thunderstorms that developed in the Sierra and Owens Valley have ended, with dry weather and typical wind patterns expected the rest of the night across the region. The chance for showers and thunders returns to the Sierra and Owens Valley on Friday, a bit earlier than today around 21Z. Light, sudden gusty winds, and CIGs to 8000ft would be possible with any storms including in KBIH. Elsewhere it will remain dry. Winds should remain light in most locations, though gusts to around 20KT are possible Friday afternoon in the Colorado River Valley. And elevated winds that do develop Friday afternoon will quickly end around sunset.
