  thunderstorms west of the Pecos River this afternoon/evening.
- Temperatures remain above normal into next week. A Pacific cold
  front Friday will cool temperatures slightly this weekend.

An upper-level ridge is currently hovering over the southern US. Our
region lies under the western periphery of the ridge as an upper
trough digs into California. Today, the ridge remains largely in
control of our weather pattern, bringing us warm and dry conditions.
Highs this afternoon are forecast to top out in the 80s, with 90s
along the Rio Grande. Winds will be a touch breezy out of the
southeast. Overnight, temperatures dip into the mid 50s to low 60s.
The upper-level trough swings from the Rockies into the northern
Great Plains Thursday, leading to the development of a lee trough.
Lift ahead of the associated front brings low (10-20%) rain chances
to southeast New Mexico down toward the Davis Mountains Thursday
afternoon through early evening. Dry and breezy conditions are
expected for the rest of the region. Highs Thursday warm into the
80s for most, though portions of the Trans Pecos and areas along the
Rio Grande see temperatures in the 90s.

Late Thursday into Friday a large upper level churns over the
Rockies and into the Great Plains. A Pacific front is pushed across
West Texas and southeast New Mexico during that time and drier air
is gradually ushered across. Highs on Friday and Saturday remain
above normal for most with mid to upper 80s expected. Another front
will pass through the area late Friday and into Saturday. While
highs will not be significantly affected, lows on Sunday morning
will be some of the coolest the region has seen since this past
Spring. Lows settle into the 50s for most with upper 40s across
southeast New Mexico and the mountains. The cooler temperatures do
not hang around long and temperatures move back above normal
areawide by early next week. The extended forecast remains dry with
rain chances remaining below 5%.
