Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 800 PM EDT Thu Sep 11 2025

.SYNOPSIS... Surface high pressure remains overhead through the end of the week and into the weekend. Dry conditions continue through the weekend as a moisture-starved cold front drops through the forecast area. High pressure returns through midweek.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/... Surface high pressure will continue to build overhead with dry conditions persisting through the overnight. After an isolated shower near I-95 from Alexandria to Woodbridge earlier, cloud cover decreases tonight with mostly clear skies expected. Overnight low temperatures will be in the 50s for most with only those near the waters and metro areas staying in the 60s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... Surface high pressure remains overhead Friday and Saturday as an upper level trough pivots over the east coast. Mostly sunny skies, dry conditions, and high temperatures in the low 80s are expected across the forecast area both days. The exception will be higher elevations where high temperatures stay in the 70s. Light winds out of the northeast become calm overnight with patchy fog possibly developing in the valleys. Overnight low temperatures will be in the 50s for most with those near the metro areas staying in the 60s.

As high pressure shifts eastward on Saturday, winds shift to southerly. Temperatures will be slightly warmer compared to Friday due to southerly flow. Limited cloud cover and dry conditions continue Saturday afternoon. Overnight low temperatures will be slightly warmer with the I-95 corridor staying in the 60s. Elsewhere, low temperatures in the 50s are expected.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Upper trough over the Northeast is expected to lift out Sunday with a Rex Block pattern developing over the upper Midwest and southern Ontario. A dry cold front will cross the area Sunday night with sfc high pressure building for much of next week. Continued dry weather is expected along with above normal temperatures.

&&

.AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... A brief shift to east/southeast winds will shift to north/northeast through Friday morning before shifting to easterly in the afternoon. On Saturday, winds shift south as surface high pressure shifts offshore. Each night, winds become light and variable across all terminals. VFR conditions are expected to continue this afternoon through Saturday as high pressure remains in control. KCHO may see reductions in visibility as patchy fog develops tonight, though VFR conditions are expected to return early Friday and persist through Saturday.

No significant weather is expected Sunday into Monday.

&&

.MARINE... Light and somewhat variable winds shift to northeast by Friday morning before shifting to easterly in the afternoon. On Saturday, winds shift south as surface high pressure shifts offshore. Winds are expected to remain below SCA criteria each day, blowing 5 to 10 knots each afternoon. No marine hazards are expected through Saturday.

Sub-SCA winds are expected through Tue.

&&

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING... Slackening winds may allow some water to slosh northward through Friday with minor flooding possible in sensitive locations during the afternoon and evening. The pattern doesn`t change appreciably, so spotty minor flooding may continue into the weekend, especially since winds eventually turn southerly.

&&

.LWX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... DC...None. MD...Coastal Flood Advisory until midnight EDT tonight for MDZ014. VA...Coastal Flood Advisory until 2 AM EDT Friday for VAZ054. WV...None. MARINE...None.
