Key Messages:
1. After morning showers and fog, drier and cooler temperatures are
expected with tonight`s lows dropping well into the 40s and 50s.
2. A gradual warming trend is expected through the week and into the
weekend with no rain expected anywhere.
Discussion:
Currently, broad troughing is expanding across the eastern U.S. with
a frontal boundary having pushed off well to our south and east.
High pressure is gradually approaching from the northwest. Recent
rainfall and gradual clearing will continue to allow for fog
development through the early morning hours with rainfall exiting to
the east. Ultimately, this will bring drier and milder conditions to
the region on Sunday with CAA and radiational cooling allowing for
temperatures to drop into the 50s and mid to upper 40s in many
places. Though not quite record values, this will be cooler than
what was seen in late August. Early in the week, high pressure will
remain in control with off and on shortwaves after deeper troughing
shifts eastward. With continued subsidence and dry air, rain is not
expected in the area. Late in the week and into the weekend, broad
ridging will expand from the west, leading to height rises and a
return of warmer temperatures back well into the 80s. However,
continued high pressure and limited moisture return will keep rain
chances out of the area.

Rain is slowly moving out and will continue to do so, as will the
low clouds. Low confidence on anything more significant than just
patchy fog tonight in the Tennessee valley, so left it out of CHA
and TYS. Tomorrow, a few gusts 15 to 20 knots primarily Knoxville
and south, with skies continuing to clear and lending a VFR
September day.
