.SHORT TERM... (Today through Friday) Issued at 548 AM EDT Thu Oct 9 2025

A wedge front is quickly settling southwestward across north Georgia early this morning, bringing lower dewpoints and more seasonal temperatures in its wake. Mostly cloudy skies amidst the easterly low-level flow will be fairly persistent, though some breaks can be expected from time to time. Meanwhile, at the midlevels a shortwave trough will rapidly swing into the area today. While overall effects will be negligible, a resultant weak inverted surface trough could lead to a few isolated showers across primarily west central Georgia this afternoon and evening. Even so, the vast majority of the area will remain dry. Otherwise, winds today will be on the breezy side thanks to the increasing pressure gradient. Sustained winds 10-15 mph and gusts over 20-25 mph can be expected. Afternoon highs today will likely run a few degrees below normal, ranging through the 70s.

Temperatures overnight will finally drop to levels more befitting of October, ranging from the 40s in the mountains of northeast Georgia to the 50s elsewhere. During the day Friday, breezy northeast winds will persist as a coastal low begins to develop off Atlantic Florida coastline, resulting in a continued tight pressure gradient. Clouds will likely remain fairly persistent across southeastern counties, though much sunnier conditions will prevail for the northwest half of the area. Friday will bring the coolest highs of the week with some areas struggling to reach 70 degrees and the remainder of the area in the low-to-mid 70s.

.LONG TERM... (Friday night through Wednesday) Issued at 548 AM EDT Thu Oct 9 2025

Temperatures will climb a couple degrees through the weekend, but will still be mild/on par for this time of year. Mid-/upper-level ridging will strengthen across the central CONUS starting early next week, which will promote increasing temperatures and continued dry conditions. Highs and lows on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are forecast to be around 5-10 degrees above average across much of north and central Georgia. Given the aforementioned synoptic pattern, the long term period brings essentially no rain chances, and given the overall limited rainfall totals over the past few days, drought conditions are likely to remain the same or worsen.
