.DISCUSSION... Issued at 159 AM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

Light winds, clear skies, and looming high pressure mixed with lingering moisture have led to yet another morning with areas of dense fog and Dense Fog Advisories remain in effect through mid morning. That should burn off into a sunny day with high temperatures in the high 60s to mid 70s. Higher precipitable water continues to take its sweet time getting out of the area, so some areas of dense fog could be possible again Thursday morning, most likely for the Twin Ports and NW WI.

A dry cold front coming from a very weak upper level shortwave is expected to saunter through Thursday into Friday. This should lead to a very warm day with southwest winds Thursday ahead of the front - temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to upper 70s, with some spots seeing afternoon highs near 80F. Thursday may be one of the only days Lake Superior doesn`t bring moderated temperatures to coastal communities. As the front passes, winds should become northeasterly and bring temperatures back into the 60s-low 70s range (still above normal for this time of year). Another weak shortwave Friday night into Saturday could bring some sprinkles or a light rain shower to the Borderlands Saturday morning, but moisture is limited and chances remain low (10-20%).

An omega blocking pattern sets up late this week into early next week. Without a wavy upper level jet stream to brandish more exciting low pressure systems our way, we`ll remain in a fairly rinse and repeat forecast with little to no precipitation expected and temperatures remaining slightly above normal. Global models are in very good agreement through October 1 (next Wednesday) on this high pressure sticking around, and then we start to see some marginal PoPs return.

.MARINE /FOR NEAR SHORE WATERS OF WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR/... Issued at 159 AM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025

Light winds are expected today with an onshore lake breeze this afternoon. Some dense fog could develop and persist in spots through Thursday morning. Thursday, southwest winds pick up ahead of a dry cold front and may gust around 15 knots, particularly along the North Shore and in the Apostle Islands. Winds then turn to come out of the northeast behind the front Friday, again with some gusts of 15-20 knots possible for the Outer Apostle Islands.
