.DISCUSSION... Issued at 101 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025

The southern portion of a large posivively-tiled upper trough extending from southeast Canada to eastern Texas will swing eastward with a centralized weak cutoff low pressure area forming today over the southeast CONUS. The axis of the system will reach Georgia and the northeast Gulf by Saturday evening, and then stall between an upper ridge building over the Great Plains and an upper high pressure area over the Atlantic. The trough will then weaken Saturday night and Sunday with only the weak cut-off low remaining over the southeast CONUS, which may possibly merge with a potential tropical system moving across the Bahamas toward the Carolina coast early next week. A weak cold front entering the northwest portion of our forecast area this morning will likely stall along the I-65 corridor this afternoon, before moving off to the southeast tonight as high pressure builds northwest of our region.

Scattered showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms will persist along the coast throughout the morning, with additional development of showers and thunderstorms expected this afternoon inland areas along and southeast of the stalled boundary. This precipitation will then move east of our area tonight along with the departing weak cold front, followed by dry conditions through the middle of next week as drier air filters in from the north.

High temperatures in the middle 80s today will increase slightly into the upper 80s and lower 90s over the weekend through the middle of next week. Low temperature inland will remain in the lower to middle 60s through the entire forecast, with upper 60s to around 70 degrees along the immediate coast.

Beach Forecast: A LOW rip current risk is forecast through early next week. /22

.AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 625 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025

Outside of some patchy fog reducing ceiling and visibility in spots over the next couple hours, VFR to MVFR flight category continues to prevail across the region. A bulk of showers and storms have remained offshore, and only isolated showers or storms are possible this afternoon across coastal counties. Underneath any showers or storms, ceiling and visibility will be temporarily reduced. Winds will generally stay out of the north to northwest around 5 knots today for most of the area. MM/25
