.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/... 730 am update... Fog is beginning to erode with sunrise. Only chg was to tweak hrly temps and dwpts for this morning.

Prev discussion blo... Today, surface high pressure stays over Maine, while a stationary coastal low pressure down by Virginia slowly creeps northeast towards the Gulf of Maine. Dry conditions with light southerly flow. Generally clear skies in the north, with clouds moving in from the south along the coast ahead of approaching low pressure system. Generally high temperatures in the 70s throughout northern and Downeast Maine. Most model guidance has the low pressure tracking far enough south of the Gulf of Maine that rain will stay over the waters. Slight chance for some light rain along the immediate coastline during the evening/nighttime. Most of the elevated smoke moves out of Maine today, but there could be another chance for elevated smoke Thursday.

Tonight, surface high pressure over the region, as a cold front from an approaching low pressure system to the northwest moves closer to Maine. Partially cloudy skies along the Downeast coast and Crown of Maine, but relatively clear skies in central Maine. Overnight low temperatures in the mid-40s. Yet another night with a potential for some river valley fog. Very slight chance for some light rain showers to move into the Crown of Maine ahead of the approaching cold front late tonight/early tomorrow.

Thursday, cold front crosses the state. Very minimal instability with this front, so still not expecting any rain showers outside of a few stray ones in the far north in the morning. Northern Maine will have daytime highs a bit cooler since the front passes early in the day, keeping areas around the mid-60s. Downeast will be in the warm sector for most of the day, so daytime highs expected to be in the 70s. Mostly clear skies.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Patchy, mostly river valley, fog is also expected both Thursday/Friday nights. Partly sunny skies will occur across northern areas Saturday, with mostly/partly sunny skies Downeast. Near normal, to slightly below normal, level temperatures are expected Friday/Saturday.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... An upper level trof moves south toward the forecast area Saturday night. Generally expect partly cloudy skies across the region Saturday night, though could also have a slight chance of showers across northern areas late. The upper trof should then move south across the region Sunday into Sunday night with generally partly cloudy skies along with a slight chance of showers which should diminish later Sunday night.
