.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will shift slowly east through the weekend. This will lead to dry conditions and seasonable temperatures.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... Surface high pressure centered off the New England coast will provide a light southerly flow this afternoon into tonight. Meanwhile, a compact closed mid- level low will traverse the upper Great Lakes. The atmosphere will remain dry through the column with little moisture advection at any level. Temperatures will be near seasonal norms.
&&
.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT/... As the closed low exits off to the northeast, a very weak surface front will move through the middle and upper Ohio Valley. This will shift winds to a northerly direction. However, with heights on the rise, it`s tough to call it a cold front. Temperatures will actually begin a slow warming trend from the chilly values to close the work week.
&&
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Mid-level ridging centered over the southern plains will continue to nose into the Ohio Valley as we head into next work week. In the resulting northwest flow, a couple of weak disturbances will move across the Great Lakes. Since our air mass still remains disconnected from any source of deeper moisture, dry weather is likely to persist. Suppose we could see increasing mid- and high- level clouds Wednesday associated with a weak cold front. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 70s Sunday through Tuesday, then drop into the upper 60s to low 70s Wednesday through Friday.
&&
.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... VFR conditions are forecast through the taf period. Only exception is at KLUK as river valley fog may develop yet again. However, with some mid and lower level clouds advecting in from the northwest late tonight, confidence is slightly lower.
Weak cold front moves through the region early Saturday morning. Minimal aviation impacts expected given that the lower clouds building in remain VFR, and winds remain light (around 5 kts) through the taf period. Winds will veer towards the northwest Saturday morning, becoming more northerly by the afternoon.
OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
