Weak sfc high pressure and very dry air through the column will maintain light winds and clear skies into the night. There will be an expansion and strengthening of high pressure over northern Ontario tonight into Tuesday. The will result in a northeasterly wind field developing across Se Mi late tonight into Tuesday. Ample dry air in the boundary layer and the development of a light northeast gradient toward daybreak Tues will limit the potential for radiational fog development.

For DTW/D21 Convection...Convection will not occur through the TAF period.

DISCUSSION...

Strong mid-upper blocking ridge of 582-588 dam is forecasted over the Central Great Lakes region throughout the week and first half of the upcoming weekend. The net result will be the persistence of a dry air mass over Southeast Michigan with precipitable water values at less than three quarters of an inch. The 72hr NBM probability for greater than 0.01 inch of rain through 12Z Saturday October 4 is approximated at 0%.

The one notable weather feature is a backdoor cold front that is forecasted to push into Southeast Michigan from the north and east Tuesday evening/night. Forecast soundings support a dry feature with a strongly anticyclonic influence. Daytime temperatures both Wednesday and Thursday will be the exception with highs at or slightly above normal (upper 60s to lower 70s). Daytime temperatures will then rebound Friday and next weekend to some 8 to 10 degrees above normal. No tangible potential exists for Frost during the next 7 days based on NBM probabilities.

MARINE...

A diffuse area of high pressure has settled over the Great Lakes today, while a second high begins to build into Ontario ensuring an extended stretch of dry weather. Between these two systems, a cold front drops into northern Lake Huron tonight and establishes NE flow by Tuesday afternoon. This brings wind gusts to 25 knots and waves to 5 feet, prompting Small Craft Advisories for the Lake Huron nearshore.
