Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service State College PA 116 PM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025

.SYNOPSIS... * High pressure stretched from the Midwest to the Mid Atlantic Region will maintain dry conditions through most or all of this week with daytimes featuring partly to mostly sunny skies and low humidity. Any early morning valley fog will dissipate by 10 AM.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... The eastern extension of a large area of high pressure was leading to nearly cloud free skies, light wind and chilly early morning temps, ranging from the mid and upper 30s across the Northern Mountains (where areas of frost will be occurring over the next several hours), to the 40s elsewhere.

The coldest temp of 33F (as of 0850Z) was noted at Port Matilda, just southwest of KUNV. Will continue to undercut the NBM this morning and again Tuesday morning, with one supporting factor being the dry ground.

Temperatures will rise quickly after sunrise, ending the risk of frost by 8 AM.

Today`s afternoon highs (ranging from the upper 60s over the higher terrain of the north and west to the mid 70s in the bulk of the Central Valleys and Susq region) will be a few to several deg below normal.

&&

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/... Another chilly night is expected for tonight, though frost potential does not look as widespread as the night before.

The greatest for frost will be throughout the valleys pf northern PA, where temperatures will likely fall into the mid 30s. If confidence increases in frost potential, another Frost Advisory would be needed.

Dry weather with abundant sunshine and light wind will continue on Tuesday, though temperatures trend a few degrees higher, with most of Central Pennsylvania seeing highs in the low to mid 70s.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... Abundant sunshine and dry conditions are favored into the end of the week, with temperatures trending warmer for Wednesday thanks to a building ridge aloft. A weak, moisture-starved cold front will track through the region Wednesday night into Thursday, but no sensible weather impacts are expected. Temperatures may drop slightly for Thursday and Friday behind this front, but a warming trend is expected into the weekend. Some guidance shows another shortwave moving through Saturday night into Sunday, potentially bringing a few showers along with it, but uncertainty remains high.

&&

.AVIATION /17Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... High pressure will provide VFR conditions through the 18Z TAF period. Skies will clear out overnight and winds will go calm, allowing for patchy valley fog formation, especially over northern PA. Impacts at any TAF sites appear unlikely, though BFD would have the best chance (
