...12z TAF Aviation Forecast Update...

.SYNOPSIS... Strong high pressure will build southeast across the northeastern United States through the remainder of this week before slowly shifting off the East Coast early next week. A cold front will likely cross the local area on Tuesday of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/... Strong high pressure will build southeast across the northeastern United States through the near term period, resulting in continued dry weather and cooler temperatures. Today`s highs will generally be in the 70s, although portions of NW PA and far NE OH may remain in the upper 60s. A few spots from roughly Mount Vernon to Findlay may attempt to reach a high near 80 degrees. The pressure gradient will tighten in response to the high building into the area today and expect breeze northeast winds with gusts to at least 25 mph likely downwind from Lake Erie in NW OH and along the immediate lakeshore. The air mass will certainly feel dry today with minimum dew points in the 30s and lower 40s and minimum RH values in the 20 to 35 percent range expected away from Lake Erie during peak diurnal mixing this afternoon.

Tonight`s lows will be notably cooler than previous nights with widespread 40s expected across the majority of the area. Typical cold spots across interior NW PA and possibly NE OH may briefly dip into the mid to upper 30s late tonight into early Thursday morning. Confidence in frost development across the northeastern tier of the local area is low at this point given potential for a bit of cloud cover and elevated winds overnight, which would work to inhibit radiational cooling and subsequent frost development. Will continue to monitor wind/sky cover/temperature trends in subsequent updates, but as of now any frost would be very isolated. High temps will recover a bit on Thursday with widespread 70s anticipated across the entire area. Similar to today, a few spots in southeastern zones may make a run for 80 degrees Thursday afternoon.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... The aforementioned high will maintain influence over the region through Saturday night, fostering dry weather and gradually warming temperatures. High temps in the 70s to lower 80s Friday will give way to widespread upper 70s to mid 80s on Saturday. Overnight lows will warm a bit throughout the period as well with 40s and 50s Thursday night rising into widespread 50s Saturday night.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... The weather pattern will remain dry through the end of the weekend and into Monday before the high begins to shift east early next week as a cold front approaches from the west. Scattered showers may return as early as late Monday night, but the best chance of showers will likely occur with the cold front passage on Tuesday. Afternoon temps will be above normal in the 80s Sunday and Monday with slightly cooler temperatures possible on Tuesday.

&&

.AVIATION /12Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/... VFR conditions will continue through tonight into Thursday morning. High pressure will remain in control of the weather with mostly clear skies. Winds will be from the Northeast 5 to 10 knots this morning and increase 8 to 13 knots during the afternoon. Gusty winds up to 20 knots will return during the afternoon and relax after sunset this evening. Winds will become more easterly tonight 5 to 10 knots.

Outlook...Patchy fog will be possible during the early morning hours Thursday and Friday. VFR is expected otherwise.

&&

.MARINE... The main concern for marine weather will be the rough conditions on Lake Erie and hazardous swimming conditions at area beaches today. Small Craft Advisories and Beach Hazards Statements will remain in effect for the rough conditions through this evening. East to Northeast winds will be 15 to 25 knots through late this evening. Waves will in the nearshore water will be between 3 and 7 feet today into this evening. Winds will shift from southeasterly late tonight into Thursday 10 to 15 knots. Winds will become more offshore flow from the south-southwesterly by this weekend 5 to 15 knots. Waves Friday into this weekend will be 1 to 2 feet with the offshore flow.

Note, this will be the last Beach Hazards Statement of the season, as the end of September marks the end of the Surf Zone Forecast product and the issuance of Beach Hazards Statements until next spring.

&&

.CLE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... OH...Beach Hazards Statement through late tonight for OHZ003-007- 009>012-089. PA...Beach Hazards Statement through late tonight for PAZ001. MARINE...Small Craft Advisory until 2 AM EDT Thursday for LEZ142>149.
