.DISCUSSION...(This Evening Through Tuesday) Issued at 231 PM MDT Tue Sep 23 2025
Upper air analysis shows the departing compact upper low swinging across the central Plains south of the CWA while strong ridging continues to build across the northern Plains. At the surface...high pressure just west of the CWA will push across the area tonight, which will allow winds to quickly subside around sunset. Aside from an isolated shower this afternoon near the Custer/Fall River border, dry weather will continue through tonight and into the foreseeable future as little change to the overall pattern is expected through at least Thursday. Light smoke may result in a slight haze, but right now not enough to add to the forecast. Warmer temperatures will advect in through the rest of the work week, bringing above average temps each day. Highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s across the western SD plains on Thursday and Friday. The upper ridge will flatten out as a system crosses central Canada. A cold front is progged to cross the CWA later Friday, which would bring slightly cooler (but still above average) temps on Saturday. Warm and dry weather will continue into next week, with no significant chances of precipitation on the horizon.
