Another round of fog is across portions of the Northland this
morning, but much more patchy in nature compared to the last
several days. That should burn off into a hot and mostly sunny
day with high temperatures soaring into the upper 70s to near
80F. A southwest breeze will reduce the moderating effect of
Lake Superior, and for areas around the Twin Ports and South
Shore, downslope warming may actually mean warmer temperatures
right along the lake, by a couple of degrees compared to further
inland.
A weak, mostly dry cold front should bring some partly cloudy skies
and a switch in wind direction through this afternoon and evening.
This front has about a 10-25% chance of bringing some sprinkles or
isolated light rain to eastern Cook County and NW WI early this
evening.
Northwest winds should bring temperatures back into the 60s to low
70s Friday (still above normal for this time of year). Another weak
shortwave Friday night into Saturday could bring some sprinkles or a
light rain shower to the Borderlands Saturday morning, but moisture
is limited and chances remain low (10-30%).
An omega blocking pattern sets up late this week into early next
week, which should lead to quite the dry precipitation anomaly.
Little to no precipitation is expected through mid next week and
temperatures remain above normal. Global models suggest that
troughing could start to push into the Northern Plains mid to late
next week, bringing chances of rain back to the Northland.

VFR conditions for the most part early this morning should persist
for INL, DLH, and BRD. Patchy MVFR to IFR fog is possible through
sunrise at HIB and HYR before we go to VFR at all sites. Southwest
winds become northwest through the day today, with some gusts up to
20knots possible at times. Winds should calm overnight.

Areas of dense fog should burn off and pull back through this
morning, but patchy areas may linger along the North Shore through
this afternoon. Southwest winds pick up ahead of a dry cold front
today and may gust around 15-20 knots, particularly along the North
Shore and in the Apostle Islands. Observations will need to be
monitored for the Grand Marais to Grand Portage zone for a possible
short term Small Craft Advisory. Winds then turn to come out of the
northeast behind the front Friday, again with some gusts of 15-20
knots possible for the Outer Apostle Islands.
