.DISCUSSION... Issued at 241 PM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025

Currently, a few lingering sprinkles remain across southern Kansas from this morning`s convection. The frontal boundary that brought the rain early this morning is now draped across Oklahoma and Arkansas. Persistent post-frontal cloud cover has limited our high temperatures today with temperatures only reaching into the lower 60s so far. High pressure centered over Nebraska is building in behind the front. Aloft, the upper-level trough axis extends across the Central Plains and into the Upper Midwest as the deep trough slowly traverses the Great Lakes Region.

For the rest of today and tomorrow, cool and dry air will continue to filter in behind the front as the upper-level trough exits the region and the surface high builds in over the Central Plains. Clouds will mostly clear the area by this evening with partly cloudy conditions expected on Wednesday. Dewpoints over the next 24 hours will continue to fall. Dewpoints this afternoon will remain in the lower 50s across the forecast area with dews falling into the mid to upper 40s by Wednesday afternoon. Afternoon highs for Wednesday will remain right around normal for this time of year with highs ranging from the upper 60s in central Kansas to the middle 70s for southeast Kansas.

Then, for the rest of the week through the weekend, the upper-level ridge will build over the region, becoming especially dominant for Friday-Sunday. This feature will lead to drier weather and warming temperatures across the forecast area. Highs on Thursday will reach into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees with highs for Fri-Sun warming into the middle 80s for most locations. Near zero precip chances are expected through Sunday, with an isolated shower possible on Thursday morning being the only exception. Another frontal boundary looks possible for Sunday night into Monday leading to cooler temperatures and additional rain chances to start next week.
