.DISCUSSION... Issued at 113 AM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025
Broad synoptic troughing over the northeast CONUS will gradually yield to rising mid-level heights from the west across the region through the week. As the surface high pressure located over the eastern Great Lakes translates eastward, warmer southerly flow will result in a major warmup as we go through the week. Today will see temperatures at 850 mb around 8-10C, which will result in temperatures near to slightly below normal again. However, by Thursday through weekend, 850 mb temperatures will warm to the around 15-17C, resulting in high temperatures in the lower to middle 90s each day from Thursday through the weekend. These values would be a few degrees shy of record high temperatures.
The combination of the ongoing abnormal dry to moderate drought conditions, the forecast of more dry rainfall through the next seven days, and low daily relative humidity values could lead to the potential for elevated fire weather conditions during the second half of the week. However, forecast gradient winds still look to be quite modest (4-8 kts during the afternoon hours at most), which should act as a check on the fire danger concerns.
