...Morning Area Forecast Discussion...
.SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday) Issued at 424 AM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025
- Dry air will settle in through the short term making for pleasant weather.
A few lingering clouds will gradually mix out as dry air continues to push in from the north this morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the low 80s and upper 70s for most of the CWA which is 3-5 degrees below normal for this time of year. When the sun sets, temperatures are expected to drop pretty quickly. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s for most of the region.
The only thing really of note will be the wind. Pressure gradient remains compact over the SE on the back edge of the recent cold front, keeping winds up. Expect NE winds around 10-15mph today with gusts as high as 25mph. Though some areas of NW Georgia could see locally higher gusts, especially along the peaks and ridges. Vaughn

.LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 424 AM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025
Key Messages:
- Mostly dry with essentially no chance for rain.
- Generally seasonable temperatures expected.
Discussion:
The main change with this forecast package is the removal of PoPs above 10% across the southern tier of the forecast area. Still don`t want to rule out an isolated shower or storm across our far east- central Georgia counties this week, but the potential is becoming increasingly low.
Mid-/upper-level troughing will prevail through the end of the week, with ensemble guidance suggesting a ridge building in from the west over the weekend. All the while, high pressure in the lower levels (~850 mb) will bring subsidence and warming across much of the Southeast, which is reflected in the gradually warming temperatures through the week. It is looking like the moderating effects of a surface CAD wedge will keep temperatures from warming further, unlike to our west and south, where the 90s will likely return at the end of the week. Highs will be in the lower 80s to right around 90, with lows in the 60s. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees cooler in the mountains. Overall, temperatures will be within about 5 degrees of normal for this time of year.
Even though it will be dry and relatively warm, hazardous fire weather conditions do not look to be a concern at this time, given progged relative humidity and winds remaining relatively light.
