AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Albany NY 724 PM EDT Mon Sep 29 2025

.SYNOPSIS... Dry conditions are expected through next weekend as high pressure remains in control. A cold front will drop southward Tuesday, allowing for cooler temperatures during the mid to late week. Warmer weather returns for the upcoming weekend.

.DISCUSSION... Clear to partly cloudy tonight as high clouds persist, especially areas from I-90 south. These high clouds may keep overnight min temps a bit milder for these areas along with slightly less coverage of fog. For areas north of I-90, slightly cooler as clouds remain thinner, and also a bit greater chance of at least patchy fog formation. Lows in the 40s across northern areas and 50s elsewhere.

A cold front will be dropping southward during Tuesday. Moisture will remain limited, so no precipitation is expected. However, winds will increase in the wake of the front and may become gusty Tuesday afternoon, especially where channeled north/northeast flow develops across portions of the upper Hudson River Valley, where some gusts up to 25-30 mph could occur late in the day. High temps mainly in the 70s, except 60s for northern areas.

Cool and breezy for Tuesday night into Wednesday, with north/northeast winds occasionally gusting up to 25 mph, especially within the Hudson River Valley due to channeled flow. Lows in the mid 30s across the southern Adirondacks, to the lower/mid 40s elsewhere. Highs Wednesday ranging from the mid 50s to lower/mid 60s. Patchy clouds may be around Wednesday morning before clearing in the afternoon.

Widespread frost/freeze potential for Wednesday night as high pressure nears the region amid a dry airmass. Lows should be in the mid 20s to mid/upper 30s. Frost Advisories/Freeze Warnings will likely be needed for many areas outside of the southwest Adirondacks where the growing season ends Oct 1. Highs Thursday in the 50s/60s.

Chilly again Thursday night with some areas of frost possible. Otherwise gradual warming trend begins Friday and continues through Sunday. Lows Friday morning mainly in the 30s. Max temps in the 60s/70s Friday, and 70s to around 80 Saturday/Sunday. Overnight lows mainly in the 40s to around 50.

.AVIATION /23Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Through 00z Wednesday...Flying conditions remain VFR at all terminals as 7:20 PM EDT with SCT to BKN high clouds around. THe high clouds persist for much of the night into tomorrow, especially at ALB/PSF/POU. At GFL, more clearing later tonight will likely allow for some patchy fog development with IFR or lower vsbys. Confidence in timing of fog development remains low, and will be addressed with amendments as needed. Lower confidence if any fog develops at PSF with more clouds around. Not expecting any fog at ALB/POU. Any fog dissipates by 12-13z tomorrow morning with just a few passing high clouds and prevailing VFR conditions expected through the rest of the day. Winds will be light and variable tonight, then shift to the N/NE tomorrow morning at 5-10 kt. ALB/POU/GFL likely see N/NE gusts of 15-20 kt from mid to late morning through the afternoon. PSF may see a few gusts to around 15 kt in the afternoon.
