Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wilmington OH 649 PM EDT Thu Sep 18 2025

.SYNOPSIS... Dry conditions are expected to continue through Saturday with low rain chances possible Sunday into early next week. Although a low chance for rain is forecast early next week, rainfall amounts look to be light. Above normal temperatures are expected to continue this week into early next week. A wetter and cooler pattern is favored toward the middle and end of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... A blocky/stagnant weather pattern continues across the area. The region continues to be under the influence of a mid level ridge that is sandwiched between a low over the Plains and a trof along the East Coast. A few diurnally driven flat cumulus clouds will dissipate with the loss of heating leaving mainly clear skies overnight. Have adjusted afternoon surface dewpoints down utilizing NBM10 based on observational trends in this airmass.

Lows tonight range from the mid 50s in outlying areas to around 60 in urban locations.

&&

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT/... Dry conditions to continue under the influence of a mid level ridge Friday. Expect a few diurnally driven flat cumulus clouds Friday afternoon with mid and high level clouds spilling in from the west Friday night with the approach of a shortwave.

Have continued to adjust afternoon surface dewpoints down utilizing NBM10 based on observational trends in this airmass. Warm highs on Friday top out in the upper 80s to around 90. Lows Friday night vary from the upper 50s to the lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Sun afternoon looks to have s/w activity running ene along upper flow with an h8 diurnal wind maxima setting up overnight. Dynamics look to weaken Mon morning but pick back up later in the day and ramp up to bring the best chance of rain in this forecast overnight Mon. A lower but continued chance of rain exists from here onward.

While the chance of rain is better than we`ve seen in the region for quite a while, it`s more of a miss or hit pattern after Mon night. A better scenario for the coming week points to increased moisture over the Ohio Valley in a general troughy pattern. At the least, the increased moisture should mark a steady decrease in high temperatures from the upper 80s Sat, mid-upper 80s Sun and then a steady lowering to end up on Wed/Thu in the mid 70s northwest and low 80s southeast. More consistent lows in the lower 60s result from this increased moisture, with readings near 60 overnight Wed.

Model signals look to have better consistency through the weekend with upper level low pressure in the Upper Midwest. On Monday, this low moves east and combines with energy in the Rockies, elongating into a wsw-ene trough. Upper features evolve quite differently between the models starting on Mon, leading to high uncertainty/low confidence in the large-scale pattern.

&&

.AVIATION /00Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period, with a very dry air mass in place. The only exception will be some MVFR fog (low confidence in IFR) at KLUK overnight.

Some cumulus clouds will likely develop again tomorrow, with winds remaining below 10 knots through the period.

OUTLOOK...Thunderstorms are possible on Monday and Tuesday.
