.DISCUSSION...

Regional 88D Radar shows returns that vary form virga to actual rain showers in spots, as temperatures climbed into the 50s in most areas. The warmest locations as of 1 pm was DLS and EAT in the low 60s. The clouds and widely scattered showers are in response to a lobe of 400-250mb potential vorticity rotating across the region. Going forward, the 3-hr HREF QPF ensemble matched mean precipitation shows significant rain shadowing through Sunday afternoon before the next mid level impulse starts to impact the greater area.

The likelihood for minor impacts ramp up Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. Chances for impacts from snow amounts (5-70%) or snow rates (5-40%) are well relegated to the higher terrain along the Cascades. Winter weather advisories have been issued for areas above 4000 ft for the Upper Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascade Crest, as well as the Eastern Slopes of the Oregon Cascades (zones OR509 and WA522). Additionally the Wind Advisory mainly for the Columbia Gorge and Simcoe Highlands area remains in place from late Tonight through early Sunday morning. Snoqualmie pass is unlikely to have moderate or even minor impacts as melting and road temperatures should play a significant role in limiting risk. Falling snow along sections of U.S. Hwy 12 west of Yakima Sunday Night, however has a higher risk for minor accumulation as well as decreased visibility due to enhanced snow rates. Santiam pass, at around 4800 feet and White Pass at around 4500 may be at a high enough elevation for snow accumulation, especially creating slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions.
