312 FXUS61 KILN 060035 AFDILNArea Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wilmington OH 835 PM EDT Fri Sep 5 2025
.SYNOPSIS... Precipitation will be possible through Saturday as a frontal boundary approaches and moves through the region. There will be the potential that some of the storms through this evening will be severe. Dry conditions will return for Saturday night through at least Thursday.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... Evening update... Initial thunderstorm activity around 4 pm quickly shifted out of the area earlier this evening with relative dryness occurring over the last two hours. Instability remains across the southeast with some scattered development now occurring in central Kentucky. As the shortwave moves into the area, there could still be some expansion in the thunderstorm coverage northward, so held on to some thunderstorm mention across several counties in northeast Kentucky and southern Ohio. The severe threat is likely fairly limited, but with the presence of strong wind shear (45 knots), can`t rule out a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds and large hail the main threats. Again, this threat is isolated to only a few counties in the local area (HWO updated).
Otherwise, still expect some showers through the overnight, but the intensity will be rather weak with fairly light accumulations.
Previous discussion (154pm)... An extensive cu field has developed near and southeast of Interstate 71. This will be the focus area for showers and thunderstorm this afternoon and into the evening hours. The environment for the severe threat is generally limited to the southeastern portions of the region across the lower Scioto Valley and portions of northern Kentucky. Damaging winds will be primary threat, but large hail and a brief isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
There will be a range in temperatures this afternoon with mid to upper 80s expected across southeastern portions of the area and middle to upper 70s expected northwest of Dayton.
Additional shower and thunderstorm activity is expected overnight as the upper level disturbance moves through the region. Thunderstorm activity will again be focused across more the southeastern portions of the forecast area, however lingering showers further to the northwest will be possible.
Cooler air works into the region tonight with lows in the 50s expected overnight.
&&
.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT/... A cooler day is in store for Saturday with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s expected in most locations. There will still be some shower activity, primarily southeast of Interstate 71, during the morning and then tapering off during the afternoon. Cold air advection cu will also be present.
&&
.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Dry conditions are expected through the long term. Sunday and Sunday night will see the coolest conditions with highs in the 60s to 70s and lows in the low to middle 40s. There will be a gradual warming trend through Wednesday with similar temperatures on Thursday.
&&
.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Showers across the lower Ohio Valley gradually work into the area overnight into Saturday morning, but impacts are expected to be rather limited. Still no mention of MVFR VIS or CIGs with the cold front that is sliding southeast of area TAF sites.
For Saturday afternoon, cumulus and mid clouds will be present for the day with light westerly winds around 10 knots.
OUTLOOK...No significant weather expected.
