Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1031 AM PDT Mon Sep 29 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* A series of disturbances will roll through the Western US this week, bringing isolated showers to the Great Basin and breezy, dry conditions to the rest of the region.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Sunday.

The first in a series of shortwaves will approach the West Coast today, rolling through the Great Basin tomorrow. This first disturbance will bring a 20 to 40% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms to the eastern Sierra and southern Great Basin today and tomorrow, with breezy 15 to 25 mph wind gusts across the region each afternoon. As this system rolls through, we will find ourselves under southwesterly-to-westerly flow aloft, which will help flush moisture from the region. A cut-off low will push into the Pacific Northwest later this week, before opening up and digging south into our forecast area. While there remains uncertainty regarding the timing and strength of this trough, we can expect breezy winds and cooler conditions to accompany it. These cooler temperatures look to stick around as long-term guidance shows this trough-y pattern continuing through the weekend and into early next week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...No significant weather impacts are anticipated through tonight with light winds generally following typical diurnal patterns. There is a 30-40% chance of brief periods of 10-12 knot winds this afternoon, though speeds will otherwise remain below 10 knots. Gusts to around 20 knots are more likely tomorrow, generally between 30/18Z and 01/03Z. VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period with FEW to SCT clouds with bases AOA 10kft AGL.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Most locations will experience light breezes that follow typical diurnal patterns through tonight. The exception will be the Owens Valley and southwestern Great Basin where gusty south winds of 20-30 knots are possible this afternoon and early evening. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will also be possible in these areas. VCSH was maintained at KBIH from 19/19Z to 30/03Z, but depending on trends this may need to be amended to VCTS. Winds and any convective activity are expected to subside after sunset. Aside from the convection mentioned above, VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period with FEW to SCT clouds with bases AOA 10kft AGL.
