Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

...New AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Dry and mild conditions are anticipated through this weekend and into next week as high pressure remains in place.

- With the potential for breezy northeast winds, dry antecedent conditions, and low afternoon relative humidity, there will be an elevated risk for grass and marsh fires today through the weekend.

.SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday night) Issued at 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

A weak frontal boundary continues to push offshore this afternoon with noticeably drier air advecting into the region on breezy northeasterly flow. Biggest weather concern in the short term will be the potential for low relative humidity values this afternoon and Friday afternoon combining with the breezy conditions to produce an increasing fire weather risk. A Fire Danger Statement has been issued for both this afternoon and Friday afternoon. Some parishes and counties have already implemented burn bans due to developing drought conditions, but burning should be avoided everywhere over the next couple of days.

Little change to the overall weather pattern over the next several days as upper level ridging centered over central Texas will maintain dry, northerly flow aloft keeping skies mostly clear while drier air continues to filter into the region at the surface making the air feel more comfortable amidst near normal temperatures.

.LONG TERM... (Sunday through Thursday) Issued at 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

The upper level ridge over central Texas will slide east early next week becoming centered nearly overhead. This will result in a gradual warming trend with afternoon highs again approaching if not exceeding 90 degrees. The good news is that the lower humidity will likely remain in place keeping conditions tolerable. However, the stubbornly persistent ridge will keep a lid on any precipitation chances through the upcoming week which will continue to exacerbate developing drought conditions across the area.

.AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

NNE to NE winds near 5-10 KTS and clear skies will prevail throughout the forecast period. No deviations from VFR are expected.

&&

.MARINE... Issued at 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

A small craft advisory has been extended across the coastal waters through early Friday afternoon as breezy offshore winds in the wake of a passing cold front will continue to increase wave heights to between 3-6 feet. Offshore flow will abate Friday afternoon through the weekend with seas following through the weekend.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 613 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025

An increased risk of wildfires will exist both this afternoon and Friday afternoon as drier air continues to work into the area on breezy northerly winds. This will drop afternoon RH Values to between 25-30%. Some parishes and counties have already issued burn bans in response to developing drought conditions across the region, but burning is discouraged everywhere across the region through the weekend.
