.DISCUSSION... Issued at 147 PM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
High pressure will dominate the forecast through next week. Overall, a large scale/broad upper level ridge will build over the region through the middle of next week, promoting a warming trend and dry weather. A couple of nuances, however, will affect temperature trends, and provide a remote chance for precipitation toward the middle to latter portions of next week. First, the amplification of the ridge will be slowed the next few days as a shortwave propagates by well the north tonight another over the weekend, suppressing the ridge and disrupting any coherent sustained southerly flow. Highs should reach the lower 80s Friday, mid 80s Saturday, and mid to upper 80s Sunday through at least early next week. There is also a small potential for an Atlantic tropical disturbance that is likely to become a tropical storm or hurricane in the upcoming days to move onshore, with remnants moving into the Ohio Valley region. While it is a long-shot at this point for any precipitation in central IL, and too low for mentionable chances of precipitation in the forecast, this appears to be the only slim chance for any precipitation through next work week. Otherwise, drought conditions will resume worsening after the generally modest precipitation that was received the past several days.
