Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 1218 AM EDT Sun Oct 5 2025

.SYNOPSIS... Deep layer ridging will bring warm and dry conditions into next week with record highs in jeopardy most days through Tuesday. A cold front will cross the region Tuesday night into Wednesday bringing a period rain to the region. High pressure builds in from the west behind the front with cooler and drier air moving in for the second half of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... Warm, mostly sunny skies and near record high temperatures are expected today in a regime of deep layer ridging.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/... Aside from some valley fog tonight, we are looking at another relatively warm night along with near record highs in the 80s on Monday.

&&

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Well above average temperatures will persist one more day on Tuesday with near record high temperatures possible once again. A strong cold front and trough of low pressure will then cross from north to south Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing our best chance for widespread measurable rainfall. Rain looks to end quickly on Wednesday morning but some lingering showers will be possible, especially across the north and mountains. Sharply colder temperatures can be expected with daytime highs around 15-20 degrees cooler than those of Tuesday. Even colder air arrives for Thursday with highs only into the 50s to lower 60s from north to south. Widespread frost/freeze conditions are then likely Thursday night with lows near or below freezing in many locations, especially away from the immediate coastline and urban centers. A slight moderating trend is then likely through the remainder of the week and weekend but daytime highs will only warm to around seasonable averages.

&&

.AVIATION /04Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Short Term...Similar VFR conditions will continue through Monday. VFR during the day with fog possible late tonight into early Sunday morning and again Sunday night at LEB and HIE. RKD may see marine fog Sunday night, but confidence is low on this at the moment.

Long Term...Other than perhaps some valley FG at mainly KLEB/KHIE on Monday night, VFR will be common through the day on Tuesday with S-SW flow. A cold front will bring RA to all sites Tuesday night- Wednesday morning along with lower ceilings and restrictions. Conditions improve later Wednesday with NW flow, although MVFR restrictions may linger at KHIE with upslope flow. Mainly VFR conditions are then likely through the remainder of the week.

&&

.MARINE... Short Term...SCA conditions are not expected through Sunday night. Southerly flow this afternoon will become more light and variable tonight and early Sunday. Prevailing south to southwest flow then takes over Sunday afternoon through Sunday night with high pressure centered to the south and east of the waters. Gusts may approach SCA levels Mon afternoon.

Long Term...Southwesterly wind gusts may approach 30 kts Monday night and Tuesday ahead of a cold front before becoming northwesterly on Wednesday behind the front with gusts remaining around 25-30 kts. Seas of 1-3 ft can be expected in the bays with 4-6 ft across the outer waters. Winds and seas then will likely lower through the remainder of the week as high pressure builds over the waters.

&&

.CLIMATE... Temperatures will be high enough to possibly challenge records the next few days as an anomalously strong 580+dam ridge builds over the area by Monday. Here are some of the records to watch.
