.KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 107 AM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

.SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 107 AM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

An upper ridge will build over northwest Mexico with northwesterly flow aloft. Weak lee troughing will bring warm downsloping southwesterly surface flow and well above-normal highs in the upper 80s (along the Caprock) to mid 90s (off the Caprock). A few high clouds may develop throughout the day, otherwise expect mostly sunny skies and light breezes. Tonight, mostly clear skies, light winds and mild temperatures will continue. Overnight low temperatures will be nearly 5 degrees above-average in the mid 50s to lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Thursday through Tuesday) Issued at 107 AM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

The upper ridge will build into the Southern Plains through the end of the work week with dry air subsidence keeping any precipitation chances near zero. Additionally, the trend for above-average temperatures will continue for the start of October. A longwave trough will build across the western CONUS this weekend with a return to southwesterly flow aloft. Strong lee cyclogenesis will develop across northeast CO as the main jet associated with an embedded shortwave ejects northeastward into the Central and Northern Plains. Much of any moisture will also remain north of the forecast area with this wave. In the wake of the shortwave will be another trough digging into the western CONUS and strengthening over northern Cali. Meanwhile, the upper ridge will build back over Texas and this overall pattern may open the door for slightly "cooler" temperatures (closer to normal for October) and increasing precipitation chances early next week.
