.DISCUSSION... Issued at 253 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025
Today and tonight...
An upper trough is centered over the Great Lakes region and extends southwestward towards Oklahoma and Texas. Nebraska and Kansas are on the backside of the upper trough. Winds across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas are mainly out of the north with temperatures mostly in the 70s. A few rain showers are across portions of the area and may continue into the evening hours (less than 20% chance). Low temperatures tonight will range from the upper 40s to mid 50s.
Thursday through Saturday night...
The upper trough will continue moving eastward with upper ridging beginning to move over Nebraska and Kansas Thursday into Friday. Winds will transition to the south on Thursday and will remain mostly out of the south until Friday night into Saturday when a weak cold front moves into the area. Surface high pressure will be across the area on Saturday with mostly northerly winds. High temperatures Thursday through Saturday will warm up into the upper 70s to mid 80s. Low temperatures during this time will generally range from the upper 40s to the upper 50s.
Sunday through Tuesday...
The upper ridge will mainly be over the Midwest on Sunday, and an upper trough will begin to lift northeast from the Desert Southwest. Southerly winds will be across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas on Sunday with high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Low temperatures Sunday night will be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Southerly winds continue Monday through Tuesday with high temperatures in the upper 70s to the lower/mid 80s. Low temperatures during this time will range from the mid/upper 50s to lower 60s.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1211 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025
For KGRI/KEAR Airports:
VFR conditions are expected during the entire forecast period with a weak surface ridge keeping winds light. A thin veil of high level smoke will hang over the region today in an otherwise clear sky.
With the light winds and somewhat higher low level moisture for late September, a bit of shallow fog could develop around dawn in primarily low lying areas. Limited nature of the fog and general lower confidence of impacts precludes adding it to the forecast for the time being.
