.DISCUSSION... Issued at 216 AM CDT Wed Oct 8 2025

Tonight - Frost Potential

A high pressure system over the Great Lakes and eastern Ontario will result in another night of clear skies and unseasonably cool temperatures. Low temperatures on Wednesday morning will be mainly in the 30s across the Upper Mississippi River Valley. The coldest temperatures (lower and mid-30s) will be found in central and north-central Wisconsin. This will result in widespread frost in these locations. Elsewhere there will be patchy frost.

Thursday Night - Scattered Showers

On Thursday night, 08.00z models continue to show that a cold front will move southeast through the Upper Mississippi River Valley. There is just enough surface moisture convergence along the front for scattered showers (20-40 percent chance of occurrence) to develop. Rainfall amounts will be less than a tenth of an inch

Sunday into Tuesday - More Showers Possible and Maybe a Few Storms

The operational models are in general agreement that the 500 mb ridge of the Upper Mississippi River Valley will flatten early next week. As this occurs, shortwave troughs will eject out of the western US longwave trough. Each of these shortwave will bring with them a chance of showers and maybe some storms.

Southwest winds will continue to bring unseasonably warm temperatures into the region. High temperatures will range from the mid-60s to lower 70s. This is around 10 degrees warmer than normal.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z THURSDAY/... Issued at 523 AM CDT Wed Oct 8 2025

Aside from early morning valley fog today in the Wisconsin River and a few Mississippi River tributaries, look for VFR conditions for the rest of the TAF period.
