.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
- Summer-like conditions return with some scattered thunderstorms approaching through south-central Montana this afternoon and evening.
- A pattern change will bring multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms to northeast Montana later this week.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
Even with a warm ridge of high pressure over eastern Montana, the approaching low pressure system on the US west coast has already begun to turn the flow pattern above Montana a bit more from the west and southwest and pushed through a few subtle short-wave disturbances. This has set off some scattered thunderstorms over central and south-central Montana. Some of this activity may reach into our Petroleum and SW Phillips Counties, but the overall storminess in expected to wane after sunset.
Tonight through Monday morning some subtle and lingering effects from the embedded short-wave disturbances may lead to a few virga showers or sprinkles of little to no consequence for a few locations.
Monday afternoon through Tuesday is expected to be a stronger ridge of high pressure for more dry and warm conditions.
Confidence is beginning to increase in a more active weather pattern later this week as the approaching low pressure system moves more over Montana. Expect widespread chances for showers and thunderstorms and decent rainfall accumulations. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:
Deviated from the NBM with more detailed hi-resolution model data for precip chances and winds for Days 1-2.
For later this week, high confidence in a wet and more active weather pattern for us locally, but average to below-average confidence for exact timing and amounts of rainfall.
