People were awakened by the shaking in New York City, Washington D.C., and Charleston, South Carolina. The ground motions were described as most alarming and frightening in places like Nashville, Tennessee, and Louisville, Kentucky. In the epicentral area, the ground surface was described as in great convulsion with sand and water ejected tens of feet into the air.

About Powersite, MO

Powersite is an unincorporated community in Taney County, Missouri, United States. It is located across Lake Taneycomo from Forsyth on the southeast end of Powersite Dam. The community is part of the Branson, Missouri Micropolitan Statistical Area. A post office called Powersite has been in operation since 1913. The community most likely took its name from nearby Powersite Dam.
