.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Issued at 158 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025

Upper level analysis and water vapor imagery show a trough extending from western NY into the lower Mississippi valley. An amplified upper ridge axis was covering the Rockies into the plains. The main polar jet was located well to the north over southern Canada, while a low pressure system was slowly drifting southeast over southern CA west of the ridge axis.

The surface front has pushed to along the Gulf coast and high pressure has moved into the area. This has brought some drier air to the area. We have a clear sky and light to no wind. Dew point depressions were around 2 to 4 degrees and there has been some light fog already start to develop. Could see some patches of localized dense fog, especially in the lower lying areas and near bodies of water heading towards sunrise. Once this burns off by mid morning, we are looking at plenty of sunshine and above normal temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s. Lows tonight should dip back into the mid 50s with a clear sky.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Issued at 158 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025

Upper level ridge will build into the area over the weekend with the polar jet remaining well to the north and the California low drifting slowly east into the southern Rockies. Watching a couple of Tropical systems out in the Atlantic. The closest one has not become a tropical cyclone yet, but has a 90% chance of becoming one. Models do bring this feature inland over the mid Atlantic and then drift it westward. Will have to monitor how far west it can make it with the upper ridge in place over the area. The California system begins to lift northeast over the plains early next week and remains west of our area. So for now, we are looking at dry conditions through the 7 day period. If the tropical disturbance near Haiti becomes "Imelda" and drifts far enough west to bring precipitation to the area, it would likely be more in the middle to later part of next week.

The upper ridging and abundant sunshine will keep temperatures above normal through the period and into the 8 to 14 day outlook which goes to October 9th. Ensemble data is suggesting temperatures around 3 to 6 degrees above normal for this time of year for the Oct 3rd - 9th period.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 1208 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025

For the 06z TAFS, some drier air has moved into the area, but we could still see some MVFR and IFR fog develop as we get closer to sunrise in the 09-12z timeframe. Remainder of the period should be in VFR conditions with a light wind.
