.DISCUSSION... Issued at 227 PM CDT Fri Oct 10 2025
A cold front currently encroaching on the northwest CWA will drift southeastward across the CWA through tonight. Cannot rule out some sprinkles along the front, especially with a passing upper-level trough this evening. A NNE wind shift behind the front will then advect a band of lake effect clouds into northwest Indiana and especially northeast Illinois late tonight through much of Saturday. Low inversion heights under 5-6kft will greatly limit precip potential, but marginal delta temps and daytime diurnal enhancement could generate isolated light lake effect rain showers or sprinkles over northeast Illinois late morning into the afternoon.
The overall pattern across the central CONUS will remain relatively quiet next week with low-amplitude ridge anchored across the central CONUS. A trough tracking northeast to south- central Canada will push a weakening cold front toward the forecast area early in the week. A trailing mid-level front may bring some decaying showers or sprinkles over the area Monday afternoon and evening, but dry conditions are expected at this time. A surface cold front will then shift southward over the area Monday night and stall south of the forecast area by Tuesday morning. Weak WAA and a mid-level disturbance rounding the ridge may yield a period of light rain Tuesday night. The central CONUS ridge will then amplify across the Mississippi River Valley late in the week, likely resulting in dry and seasonably warm conditions.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 1218 PM CDT Fri Oct 10 2025
No major forecast concerns are expected through the TAF period.
A cold front will continue to move through the area this afternoon and evening resulting in some isolated showers/sprinkles at times through 21-22z. Otherwise, expect breezy southwest winds ahead of the front (gusts around 20 kts) to ease and become northwesterly behind the front this evening. Winds will finally become northeasterly Saturday morning and remain as such for the remainder of the period with speeds around 8-10 kts. As for the skies, BKN to OVC 3500-4500 ceilings are expected this afternoon ahead of the front but will give way to mostly clear skies tonight. Though, some VFR lake effect clouds are expected to develop Saturday morning and linger at the Chicago terminals through Saturday afternoon.
