.SYNOPSIS... High pressure continues to slide south of the state this evening. Another high builds north of the region Saturday into Tuesday keeping a Mid Atlantic low well south of the region. &&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... High pressure system centered over New England shifts south into the waters. Mostly clear skies, with a few upper level clouds moving through the state. Westerly/southwesterly winds some a few gusts up to 20mph. Daytime highs in the mid-to- upper 50s. Plenty of dry low-level air. Clear skies again overnight, but without weakening winds, not expecting much in terms of fog. Could be some patchy fog in river valleys. Otherwise, overnight lows in the lower-30s in the north and upper-30s to low-40s Downeast. Frost advisory out for the Bangor region tonight, with low temperatures around 33-36 degrees. Tonight is the last evening for the freeze/frost season in the Bangor region, as it is now climatologically expected to form.
Tomorrow, high pressure over New England slides into the Atlantic, as another high pressure system from Canada begins to move south towards Maine. Daytime highs will be a little warmer, in the low-60s in the north, and upper-60s Downeast. Overnight, around freezing in the north with potential for favorable radiational cooling conditions. Mid-40s Downeast and along the coast. Light winds, clear skies, and high humidity may result in some patchy river valley fog. &&
.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... High pressure remains centered north of the region Sunday through Sunday night blocking Mid-Atlantic low pressure. Expect mostly clear skies north, partly sunny Downeast, Sunday. Generally expect partly cloudy skies north, mostly cloudy Downeast, Sunday night. The northern edge of the precipitation shield from the Mid-Atlantic low will creep northward across the Gulf of Maine Sunday night. However, uncertainty still exists regarding the northern extent of the precipitation shield. Will also include a slight chance of rain late Sunday night Downeast. High pressure remains north of the region Monday into Monday night, still blocking the Mid-Atlantic low. Uncertainty still persists regarding the northern extent of the precipitation shield Monday into Monday night. Expect partly sunny/mostly cloudy skies north Monday. Across Downeast areas Monday, expect mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance/low chance of rain. Expect partly/mostly cloudy skies north Monday night with only a slight chance of rain. Across Downeast areas, expect mostly clouds skies with a chance of rain. However, stronger high pressure could limit the northern edge of the rain shield toward the Downeast coast, keeping much of the forecast area dry Monday through Monday night. High surf and rip currents are likely along the Downeast coast Monday through Monday night. Slightly above normal level temperatures are expected Sunday, with near normal level temperatures Monday. &&
.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... High pressure remains ridged across the region Tuesday, still blocking the Mid-Atlantic system. A cold front should also begin to approach Tuesday night. Moisture from the Mid-Atlantic system could be drawn northward across the forecast area in advance of the approaching cold front Tuesday. Uncertainty persists regarding shower chances Tuesday. Due to the uncertainty, will only keep a slight chance/low chance of showers Tuesday along with mostly cloudy skies. High surf and rip currents are still likely along the Downeast coast Tuesday. The remnants of the cold front remain across the region Wednesday, with an upper level trof approaching late. Expect mostly cloudy skies along with a slight chance/low chance of showers across the region Wednesday. Uncertainty with the strength of the upper trof, along with the strength/location of an offshore low, exists Thursday into Friday. Generally expect partly/mostly cloudy skies along with a chance of showers Thursday into Friday, though shower coverage is still uncertain. Expect near normal level temperatures Tuesday/Wednesday, with slightly below normal level temperatures Thursday/Friday. &&
