.KEY MESSAGES...

- A cold front brings rain chances (50-90%) to the area today. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain limited to a few tenths of an inch.

- Cooler and dry this weekend with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s. A warming trend returns to the area through early to middle of next week with temperatures above normal for early September.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Issued at 324 PM CDT Fri Sep 5 2025

A cold front and upper level disturbance will lead to increasing convective coverage and intensity, mainly along and south of I-44 late this evening into early tonight. Instability will be weak, thus lightning and moderate rainfall will be the greatest hazards with and stronger cells.

Precip amounts will generally be light at less than 0.20", but some locations south of I-44 could see isolated amounts up to a half inch.

Behind the front, rain will clear out tonight, leaving the area dry by sunrise. Look for lows in the 50s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 324 PM CDT Fri Sep 5 2025

The rest of the forecast period will be dry. The pattern this weekend will feature an upper ridge over the western CONUS and a trough over the central. Through next week, that pattern slowly shifts east, which will result in a warming trend. By Wednesday, highs are forecast to be in the low to mid 90s, but with low humidity limiting heat impacts. Look for daily minRH values of 30-40% with some locations seeing 20-30%.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 642 PM CDT Fri Sep 5 2025

Showers and isolated storms are expected to continue to impact the region through the overnight hours into Saturday morning. The best potential will be mainly near and south of KJLN and KSGF, with KBBG seeing the greatest potential impacts. Main concerns will be light to briefly moderate rain at KSGF and KJLN, along with MVFR ceilings. KBBG should see moderate to briefly heavy rain and IFR ceilings late this evening into tonight. Expect improvement at all sites late tonight into Saturday morning (latest at KBBG).
