A closed low centered over Ontario Canada and upper trough extending south into the Central Plains, Great Lakes and Ohio Valley will bring a large area of cool temperatures. H85 temperatures will only range near 0C across upper Michigan. Across western Nebraska, H85 temperatures to range from 8C to 12C, with highs this afternoon to reach the mid to upper 60s. Early morning light rain showers or sprinkles across southwestern Nebraska should end soon after 12Z, with cloudy skies across the south this morning to become mostly sunny in the afternoon. Winds light northwest up to 10 mph across the western Sandhills and southwest, to 10 to 20 mph across north central and central Nebraska.

Tonight, the main forecast concern will be the potential for frost across the northwest Sandhills, where lows are forecast to fall into the mid 30s. Plants sensitive to these cold temperatures may be vulnerable and should be covered or brought inside.

Saturday and Sunday, a deep upper low will remain centered over Ontario Canada with an upper trough across the Northern Plains, Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. With gradual upper height rises, high temperatures were raised a few degrees to the upper 60s to near 75 Saturday and mid 70s to near 80 Sunday. Sunny skies Saturday, then partly cloudy Sunday with winds southeast 10 to 20 mph.

On Monday, upper ridging will build into the region as a weak shortwave trough crosses the ridge into Monday night. Could see a few showers or thunderstorms in the east Monday afternoon and evening.

Highs Monday through Thursday warm back up into the mid to upper 80s west and the upper 70s to low 80s over central Nebraska. The GFS, ECMWF, and Canadian models all forecast a strong upper ridge building across the Central U.S. as a deep upper trough deepens across the West Coast. A nearly stationary front may become located across Nebraska, as disturbances cross the ridge from Tuesday afternoon through the Wednesday night timeframe. Some instability and shear will exist to support thunderstorms.

VFR conditions the next 24 hours at the KLBF and KVTN terminals. Light northwest winds strengthen after 15Z, with gusts of 20 to 25kts expected for north central Nebraska terminals including KVTN. Winds then become light and variable Friday night into Saturday morning.
