.SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 200 PM CDT Mon Oct 13 2025

Tonight through Tuesday: Surface high pressure will continue to build into the Upper Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes regions, as a 500mb ridge expands over the area. A low-level boundary (surface-850mb) will remain nearly stationary across eastern Iowa into northwest Illinois through tonight, roughly along the Highway 30 corridor, separating much drier air to the north and moist conditions along and south. The HREF has low cloud cover expanding overnight, initially along/south of Highway 30, then gradually spreading northward through the day on Tuesday. Weak low-level warm air advection through the day on Tuesday may lead to the development of isolated to scattered showers (15-30%). The highest chances will hold off until Tuesday night as a mid-level impulse exits the Central Plains and tracks across the region (30-60% north of I-80 and near 20% down toward the Highway 34 corridor). Cooler, more seasonable temperatures are expected on Tuesday with highs ranging from the lower 60s in the northwest to the mid 70s far east-central to southeast.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... Issued at 200 PM CDT Mon Oct 13 2025

On Wednesday, the front is expected to remain just south of the CWA, with plenty of mid clouds and some threat for light precipitation in over-running in the north 1/2 of the CWA. Highs in the 60s north and mid 70s south are expected. Following this cooler period, a deep western trof will advance east aloft, with drawing the front northward again, for Thursday and Friday. The NBM is very aggressive on strong warming in this period, with mid 70s to lower 80s forecast. On Friday, the warm temperatures combined with breezy south winds may lead to an elevated fire weather potential in unharvested fields.

Friday night into the weekend, the deep upper trof continues to show movement far enough east to push a cold front through our CWA, and with that, we have pops for rain in the 40-70% range. It`s still pretty far out, so there remains low confidence on this potential storm system`s impacts.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1200 PM CDT Mon Oct 13 2025

VFR expected today with plenty of sun as the main band of clouds shifts to the east through Illinois. A boundary will remain over the area into Tuesday, likely leading to the redevelopment of low clouds (3000-5000 ft AGL) late tonight mainly south of DBQ. This could result in periods of MVFR ceilings, most favored at CID and BRL for Tuesday AM. Isolated showers are possible late in this TAF period but did not include in the TAFs with this update due to low confidence on coverage.
