.DISCUSSION... Issued at 318 PM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

A cluster of thunderstorms continues over northern Kansas, and a few isolated showers/storms have redeveloped near Gothenburg. These are forced by a shortwave moving through the area, but the storms have not been handled very well by CAMs. Limited shear will keep these storms non-severe, but it wouldn`t be surprising to see a few persist into the late afternoon before diminishing.

Tonight, high clouds will clear from west to east. As skies clear, temperatures are expected to dip into the 50s. Some fog could develop in western parts of the area (mainly in low-lying areas), but widespread impacts are not expected.

Thursday and Friday will remain warm with ridging over the central CONUS. Widespread 80s are expected on Thursday, and some areas will challenge 90 degrees on Friday...aided by increasing southerly winds.

Continued southerly winds will prevent temperatures from dipping lower than the mid to upper 60s Saturday morning...a solid 20-25 degrees above our "normal" lows in the mid to upper 40s. Southerly winds continue to increase Saturday afternoon ahead of an approaching shortwave. In fact, this is set up to be the breeziest day that we`ve seen in quite some time. The latest NBM shows a relatively high chance (50-90%) for wind gusts to exceed 40 MPH Saturday afternoon. High temperatures will again reach the upper 80s and low 90s.

The arrival of a cold front late Saturday night will bring us a chance for thunderstorms, although this has been trending less favorable for our area. The latest NBM only shows a 15-20% chance for the northwestern half of the area.

Temperatures trend cooler for Sunday-Tuesday behind the cold front. Low chances for showers and thunderstorms return to at least southern parts of the area each day.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z THURSDAY/... Issued at 1235 PM CDT Wed Oct 1 2025

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

This morning`s showers have moved to the east and weakened. VFR conditions are favored through the period. The only possible issue would be fog Thursday morning, but the potential for this at GRI/EAR is low (10-15%).

South-southeast winds today become light and variable tonight into Thursday morning.
